Odisha's bid to become a hockey state, governments should watch and learn from...

Hockey is the national sport of India.  Another fact is that it is not officially in the government records.  However, there is a move to promote hockey in the state of Odisha.  Odisha is a model for other states in this regard... The Odisha government has come up with a new plan to nurture Hockey, which is known as India's national sport.  Although hockey has not been declared as the official national sport of the country, it is as if hockey has been taken over completely by the Odisha government. The last two FIH (International Hockey Federation) Hockey World Cups were held in Odisha.  While the 2018 FIH World Cup was staged in Bhubaneswar, Odisha hosted the 2023 World Cup in Rourkala along with Bhubaneswar.  In other words, the Odisha government has built a quality venue just to host the World Cup in Rourkala in a short period of time. The Odisha government has now come up with a new plan to grow hockey from the grassroots level.  The Odisha government will start 22 new hockey training centers in the state.  The highlight of this project is to give young children competitive experience on synthetic turf. The new training centers are being set up by the State Youth Service Department and the Odisha Naval Tata Hockey High Performance Centre.  At present 1300 children are practicing on synthetic turf in 18 hockey training centers.  Each hockey training center has two coaches.  Plans have also been formulated in this regard, including organizing club level competitions every weekend. India won a thriller against Australia in Pro League Hockey.
